Terms of Use

1. About NursEscape

NursEscape is a digital learning platform for hosting, assigning and running interactive digital escape-room experiences in nursing and, where suitable content exists, across the health professions.

The platform supports, among other functions:

• organisations,
• Learners,
• Instructors,
• Courses,
• Groups / Cohorts,
• Assignments,
• invitations,
• independent Room Packages,
• published room versions,
• learner attempts,
• progress,
• saved state,
• scores where reported,
• structured events,
• results,
• the Instructor Results Dashboard,
• CSV exports,
• certificates of completion,
• public certificate verification.

NursEscape is not a general Learning Management System and is not intended to replace systems such as Moodle or eClass.

2. Who may use the platform

The authenticated platform is not currently operated as an open consumer self-registration service.

Access is provided within an approved educational or organizational context.

Current production roles are:

• Learner
• Instructor
• Super Admin

Available functionality depends on role and authorization.

3. User accounts

Where an account is required, users must provide accurate information and use the account only within the scope for which they are authorized.

Users should:

• keep passwords confidential,
• not share authentication credentials,
• not allow unauthorized third parties to use the account,
• report suspected or unauthorized access,
• use an email address they are legitimately entitled to access.

Never submit a password through the Contact form or by email.

4. Invitations and institutional access

Learners and other users may be invited into an organization, course or group by an authorized person.

An invitation does not by itself create:

• a commercial right of use,
• a subscription,
• a licence agreement,
• an SLA,
• accreditation,
• a professional entitlement.

Access depends on the actual educational/institutional context and relevant authorization.

5. Acceptable use

NursEscape must be used:

• for lawful purposes,
• in accordance with these Terms,
• in accordance with Instructor/Institution instructions,
• with respect for platform security and other users,
• in accordance with applicable academic policies.

Users must not use the platform in a way that:

• disrupts service operation,
• improperly prevents access by others,
• violates law,
• infringes third-party rights,
• compromises platform security or integrity.

6. Prohibited activity

Unless explicitly authorized, users must not:

• attempt unauthorized access to an account, organization or data,
• bypass authentication, authorization or access controls,
• access assignments or results belonging to other users,
• attempt to break sandbox or other security boundaries,
• introduce malware, malicious scripts or harmful code,
• intentionally disrupt service availability,
• probe or scan for vulnerabilities without prior authorization,
• access internal endpoints not intended for the user,
• collect other users' personal data without lawful authorization,
• use the service for unlawful or abusive content,
• forge or alter certificate-verification information,
• impersonate another user.

7. Educational use and academic integrity

Digital rooms may form part of a course, assignment or other educational activity.

The Instructor or institution may define rules for:

• permitted attempts,
• individual or permitted collaborative work,
• deadlines,
• use of external aids,
• assessment conditions,
• academic integrity.

Users must follow the rules communicated for the relevant activity.

NursEscape does not impose one universal academic-integrity policy across every institution and room.

8. Digital Room Packages

NursEscape does not contain an internal visual escape-room builder.

Rooms are independent frontend web applications and may include:

• HTML,
• CSS,
• JavaScript,
• JSON,
• compiled frontend frameworks,
• images,
• audio,
• video,
• animations,
• WebGL,
• WASM,
• other static frontend assets.

Server-side executable code is not permitted to run as part of a Room Package.

9. Room Package security model

Room Packages run inside a sandboxed iframe.

They do not receive access to:

• NursEscape cookies,
• the application session,
• the parent DOM,
• internal application endpoints.

Communication takes place through the NursEscape JavaScript SDK.

These controls do not amount to a guarantee of absolute security.

10. Educational and clinical content

NursEscape is an educational platform.

Room Package content:

• is not individualized medical advice,
• is not a diagnosis or treatment recommendation for a real patient,
• does not replace applicable clinical protocols,
• does not replace professional judgment,
• does not grant a professional licence or qualification.

Clinical scenarios should be treated as learning activities within their defined educational context.

11. Attempts, progress, scores and results

Depending on the Room Package and Assignment, NursEscape may record:

• attempts,
• progress,
• saved state,
• score,
• maximum score,
• structured events,
• completion,
• duration,
• result information.

Not every room provides every data type.

A score or percentage:

• is an output of the specific room/scoring logic,
• is not automatically a validated measure of knowledge,
• is not automatically a measure of clinical competence,
• should not be interpreted outside its educational context without appropriate evidence.

12. Resume and saved state

Where a Room Package uses the relevant capabilities, it may save state so that an active attempt can be resumed.

Availability of saved state may depend on:

• room implementation,
• platform availability,
• assignment status,
• attempt status.

13. Certificates of completion

Where an assignment has certification enabled and the defined criteria are met, NursEscape can issue a certificate of completion.

Criteria may include:

• completion,
• completion plus a minimum score,

depending on configuration.

Certificates may include a public verification number and QR verification.

14. Public certificate verification

Public verification exists to check certificate authenticity and status.

It must not be used for:

• automated enumeration of verification codes,
• bulk harvesting of personal information,
• profiling certificate holders,
• falsifying certificate status,
• creating fraudulent certificate records.

15. Logos, names and institutional identity

Names, marks and logos displayed may include:

• NursEscape,
• Healthcare Innovation Laboratory,
• University of Thessaly,
• Department of Nursing.

Their display does not grant users the right to use them for:

• endorsement,
• advertising,
• commercial use,
• misleading affiliation.

16. Third-party libraries and content

Room Packages and platform components may use third-party or open-source software.

Those components remain subject to their own licences.

Authorized room publishers are responsible for ensuring that incorporated assets and libraries are used consistently with applicable licences.

17. Information submitted by users

When users submit information through a:

• contact form,
• profile,
• Room Package publishing workflow,
• administrative form,

they should have the right to provide that information and should not infringe third-party rights.

Users should not submit:

• passwords,
• real patient data,
• unnecessary health information,
• confidential institutional information without authorization,
• copyrighted material without appropriate rights.

18. Privacy

Personal-data processing is described in the Privacy Policy.

Cookies and similar technologies are described in the Cookie Policy.

These Terms do not replace privacy information.

19. Research

NursEscape includes research-oriented infrastructure.

This does not mean that:

• every platform use is research,
• every educational activity is a study,
• production educational data are automatically available for research reuse,
• a user automatically becomes a research participant by using NursEscape.

Every real study requires its own:

• protocol,
• participant information,
• governance,
• ethics approval where required,
• lawful basis,
• consent process where required.

Study participation should be governed by the relevant study documents, not only by these Terms.

20. Accessibility

NursEscape is being designed with WCAG 2.2 Level AA as its accessibility target.

Use of the platform can involve independent Room Packages with different accessibility status.

Lawful use of assistive technology is permitted and is not treated as prohibited automation.

21. Service availability

NursEscape is a functioning production system, but should not be understood as being supplied with a guarantee of uninterrupted availability.

Interruptions may arise from:

• maintenance,
• updates,
• technical failures,
• network failures,
• security interventions,
• institutional infrastructure outages.

22. Changes to functionality

The platform may evolve.

Functions may be:

• added,
• modified,
• improved,
• withdrawn

where necessary for educational, technical, security or institutional reasons.

Material changes affecting user rights, privacy or acceptance requirements should be accompanied by appropriate notice.

23. Roadmap functionality

Functions described as future directions are not commitments to deliver.

24. Account closure and data

Account deactivation or closure does not necessarily mean that all associated records are immediately deleted.

There may be lawful or functional reasons to retain records such as:

• educational records,
• audit/security logs,
• certificates,
• verification/revocation records,
• records required by law.

25. External links

The public site may contain links to:

• the University of Thessaly,
• the Healthcare Innovation Laboratory,
• social media,
• maps,
• other external resources.

External sites operate under their own terms and policies.

NursEscape does not control the content, availability or privacy practices of third-party websites.

26. No automatic endorsement from external links

The presence of an external link does not automatically imply:

• endorsement,
• partnership,
• sponsorship,
• approval of all third-party content.

27. Educational information — no professional advice

NursEscape and Room Packages provide educational content.

They should not be used as the sole basis for real-world clinical decisions or patient care.

Healthcare professionals should follow:

• applicable law,
• professional standards,
• institutional policies,
• validated clinical guidance,
• professional judgment.

28. Commercial terms

NursEscape does not currently publish:

• public pricing,
• a standardized subscription plan,
• a self-service commercial licence,
• a public SLA,
• a standard enterprise contract.

Specific terms for institutional pilots/deployments should be agreed separately where required.

These public Terms do not establish a price or licence fee.

29. Changes to these Terms

These Terms may be updated when there are changes to:

• platform functionality,
• access model,
• security requirements,
• legal/institutional requirements,
• institutional deployment model,
• related policies.

The latest version should display:

• publication/update date,
• version number.

Where a change requires renewed acceptance, NursEscape may use versioned Terms-acceptance workflows.
